Trump Calls Loved Ones of Shot Military Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Response
Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid public safety in the capital.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Funeral details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The incident caused the government to pause asylum applications and halt granting visas to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
