The Substance Film
The filmmaker's daring commentary tackles the demanding standards for women's appearance along with the dreaded aspects of growing older. Hollywood star Demi Moore presents an inspired acting turn in the role of Elisabeth, a mature celebrity demoted to presenting an aerobics show on television. Forced aside by her unscrupulous employer Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, she undergoes a secretive and terrifying procedure called "The Substance". This produces a youthful duplicate called Sue, resulting in an increasingly parasitic dynamic among both women. This Friday, Paramount+

Presence
Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries through this nifty supernatural story filmed completely from the viewpoint of the spirit. After a clan featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the lens – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The teen shows signs of conscious of the poltergeist, and the entity appears guarding her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise you might not see coming. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
This Self-Referential Film
The iconic actor wholeheartedly adopts his eccentric image through this autobiographical spoof. He plays an egotistical film star named Nicolas Cage who agrees to a $1m payday to attend a celebration on the Spanish island for the wealthy Javi Gutierrez. Hired by the CIA to gather intel on the suspected cartel boss, Cage's unconventional method is put to the test. October 11th, 9pm, the Channel 4 network
This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest remains effective even without a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of child abductions has rendered the local kids anxious. After Finney is taken by “the Grabber” and locked up in a cellar, he anticipates the worst. Yet the disconnected phone in the room continues to ring, with ghostly voices offering help, while the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. An effective horror. October 11th, late evening, Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the battle between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for Mammon in this director's delightfully tacky true story about the fallen TV preacher and her felon spouse. Garfield acts as the greedy Jim, who proclaims initially, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple begin monetising the American public's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, yet the lead actress succeeds to show Tammy Faye with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, early morning, on Film4
This Espionage Thriller
This period's additional entry by the same director delivers a spy mystery as sharp similar to the collars used by Michael Fassbender's UK spy. He receives a mission with uncovering a double agent within their ranks from five suspects – among them is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. The two stars are masters of deadpan cool, so a delicious mental battle of deception or honesty unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela join in the smart espionage amusement. October 17th, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema Premiere
