Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury while the Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter in an accidental coming together with teammate Jones.

Jones came down on the footwear of the big man, who promptly collapsed to the ground holding his leg.

The star, who leads the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, had 21 points and eight dimes in the contest prior to sustaining the setback.

The player will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to determine the severity of the issue.

"Immediately, he knew something was wrong," commented Nuggets coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who is injured, it's difficult, particularly a player as talented as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We'll move on as a team. Obviously, at this moment, I'm focused just about him personally and the frustration of going through something like that."
