The Renowned Musician Urges Public Help to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project aims to send support to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The track was produced in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of producers and composers. The song features a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The team running the initiative have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was described as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is primarily making this cause better known and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from mid-December.
