The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
