The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
