Russell Wilson Responds at Ex-Mentor Sean Payton Over Quarterback Remarks
NY Giants quarterback Russell Wilson didn't mince words on online platforms this Tuesday, reacting to recent criticism from his ex-mentor Sean Payton.
"Classless... but not shocked...," Wilson declared via social media. "Didn't realize you're still offering rewards 15+ years later through the press."
The quarterback's response pointed to the notorious Bounty Gate issue from 2009 to 2011, when Payton was coaching the Saints.
At that time, the league found that the Saints had rewarded players for making aggressive tackles on opponents. As a result, Payton was suspended from the league for a full year.
The Cause of the Latest Exchange
Wilson's reaction came after Payton delivered comments after the Broncos' historic comeback win over the Giants. Payton suggested that the team had "found a little spark" with Jaxson Dart, who has replaced Wilson as the starting quarterback.
Moreover, Payton implied that he had told team owner John Mara that he would rather facing Wilson over Dart.
"I was talking to John Mara recently and I said, 'We were hoping that change would've happened well after our game,'" Payton commented.
