Preview the Reimagined Classic Adventure: This Free Demo for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Fans looking forward to the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait much longer. An highly anticipated demo version will release on January 7th, granting a generous glimpse into the game's initial chapters. Notably, all advancement made within this demo is eligible to be carried over directly into the full game upon its February launch.

Beyond Just a Simple Remake: The Thorough Reimagining

This project constitutes a ground-up reimagining of the seminal year 2000 role-playing game, first titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from recent series remakes, such as the previously launched HD-2D versions, this reimagining utilizes a unique 3D visual presentation. Environments have been crafted to look like intricate model sets, with protagonists having a delightful chibi-esque appearance.

"Even with the 3DS version, the story was still notoriously long. Therefore, we came to a decision that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an adventure for modern players."

Significant Gameplay Improvements and Modernizations

The development team have implemented several modernizations to update the original experience. Among these are:

  • Streamlined Field Encounters: Taking a cue from contemporary RPGs, low-level enemies can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map without entering a full traditional combat sequence.
  • Variable Battle Speed: Gamers can speed up combat animations to quickly get past easier encounters.
  • New Vocation Mechanics: A brand new job class has been introduced for this remake. Furthermore, characters now have the option to take on a secondary job, greatly enhancing strategic possibilities.

These alterations seek to mitigate a key the original title's most noted criticisms: its daunting playtime. The original storyline was known to require more than 100 hours to see through. This new version was expressly reworked to refine pacing and reduce perceived repetition.
