Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
