England's Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
The bowler's most recent Test for the Kiwis was versus England in December 2024.
England's bowling consultant Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The former Kiwi pace bowler is expected to be available for the opening match because of his involvement in the International League T20 tournament, which starts on December 2 in the UAE.
The 36-year-old, 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Commenting as England's squad for the first of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, Southee stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating that at the moment.
"We'll see what happens over the next little while."
England bowling legend Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Aussie side," Southee remarked.
"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the quality of [England's] side that's going out to Australia is brilliant.
"It should be an absolute cracker, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
However, before England head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they face the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
